Download the compiled PDF with one click.

Ask the AI

With a free account, the AI assistant can explain the document, read the errors of your last compile and propose fixes as diffs you accept or reject. The Free plan includes the unlimited Auto model.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to open a .tex file?

No. Open the editor, add your file and compile. You only need an account for cloud projects, collaboration, ZIP import and the AI chat.

Is it free?

Yes. Compiling is free and unlimited, with a 60-second limit per compile (Pro raises it to 3 minutes). The Free plan also includes the unlimited Auto AI model and 50 credits a month for premium models.

Can I open a project with several files or a .zip?

Several files, yes: upload your .tex, .cls, .sty, .bib and .bst files, plus images, PDF figures and fonts through the resources upload, and the main file picks up the rest. A .zip needs a free account: click Import ZIP in the Projects menu and Texmate keeps your folders, images and fonts.

Which LaTeX compiler does it use?

pdfLaTeX by default, which covers most documents. XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX run when the file asks for them with a comment such as % !TEX program = xelatex, and documents that load fontspec compile with LuaLaTeX. Shell escape is off.

Is my file private?

Without an account your files stay in your browser. When you compile, they are sent to our compiler and deleted as soon as the PDF is built; the PDF itself is kept for at most 10 minutes so you can view it. With an account, projects are stored in the cloud and only you and your collaborators can see them.
